Tenor saxist Josephine Davis creates a nimble trio with James Maddren/dr and Dave Whitford/b through eight originals. Davis has a gorgeous Lester Young airiness to her tone, and uses it well as she softly floats on the sighing “In the Cornesrs of Clous” and along Maddren’s brushes on a mournful “The Space Between Thoughts.” The lightness and breathiness of her horn is also successful on the more agitated “Cry” and rumbling “Song of the Danicing Saint” that includes rich sax yearnings .When she adds a second horn to the gentle “Lazy,” the result is a molasses thick balm of sweetness. Sound wins the day here.
