Playing off of the famous Miles Davis tune, the team of Tim Armacost/ts-ss, David Berkman/p, Ugonna Okegwo/b and Gene Jackson/dr give homage to vintage ESP-era Miles Davis with sleek post bop material and moods. Jackson gives and aggressive and driving pulse on “Eye of the Hurricane” with his cymbals richly pulsed for Armacost’s tenor on “Every Time We Say Goodbye.” Armacost displays his homage to Coltrane with his passionate tone complemented by Okegwo on “I Love You” and the team swings joyfully on “Tonight.” Berkman is delicate on a blissful “Peace” and the whole team digs in hard as Armacost switches to soprano on a dramatic, muscular and assertive “If I Should Lose You.” Vintage sounds with modern presentations.
