Thomas Fonnesbaek Trio: Sharing

Bassist Thomas Fonnesbaek leads a melodic trio teaming with pianist Justin Kauflin and Dummer Billy Williams through a mix of originals and standards. Kauflin brings his Rhodes keyboards in the studio in order to team up with the leader for a pulsating “Tokyo Tower,” but other than that the album features spacious ballads like the lyrical title track and “Connection,” joyful prances on “For Paco” that has some impressive bass lines and a scintillating “First Dance” coaxed along by Williams’ Latin groove. The team shows its blues hues on a nicely bopping read of McCoy Tyner’s “Inception” and on Irvin Berlin’s “The Best Thing For You Is Me’ the easy and understated swing is gloriously understated. Very classy.
