The Hammond B3 is humming like a 61 Caddy with Ben Paterson at the wheel. Along with Gillespie-alum Ed Cherry/g and Jason Tiemann/dr, you get some hot grooves that stick to your ribs. The pedals are pushed for a bluesy “Sweatin’” and the plugs are pulled until they squeal on “Frame For The Blues” as Cherry picks and grins. Pretty pieces like Wayne Shorter’s “Edda” and a lyrical “I Remember Clifford” have the Leslie’s swaying and Tiemann caressing the ride cymbals. Lots of hot “oomph” is pushed on Grant Green’s classic “Green Jeans” and the fun “FSR” is a fitting tribute to Sonny Rollins’ “Oleo.” The toes are tapping this night out.
