Adrian Cunningham and Ken Peplowski: Duologue

Two of the warmest tone reed players get together for a sublime session, as Ken Peplowski/cl-ts and Adrian Cunningham/cl-bcl-fl team up with Renee Rosnes/p, Martin Wind/b and Matt Wilson/dr for a mix of originals and clever jazz standards.

The two spend a good amount of time teaming together the clarinets, and the result is a sweet licorice whip of material such Bill Evans’ “Show Type Tune” a pastoral take of Jimmy Giuffre’s “Ballade” and a stately “Mozart After a Few Beers” along with a bopping “Alligator Crawl.” Cunningham’s flute creates a rich texture along with Wilson’s fun drums on “Dois Grandes Gringos” and the team stomps through a heavy beat of “I’m Just A Lucky So and So.” Peplowski’s tenor is a Ben Webster delight on Rosnes’ “Jimmy Up Jimmy Down” and intriguing moods are created on Wilson’s “Sonic Garden.” A mix of sophisticated and sublime work well here.
