Composer and arranger Frank Vielma brings together a collection of Latin All Stars Michael Rodriguez/tp, Miguel Zenon/as, Luis Perdomon-Cesar Orozco/p-key, Pablo Bencid/dr, Roberto Koch/b and Angel Subero/tb with some guest vocalists while he supplies a surfeit of percussion instruments.
Some of the percolated pieces have dedications to various jazz heroes. Zenon’s alto sears along with the other horns and other rhythm instruments on a rich “Monk en Aragua” while John Coltrane is given a tip of the sombrero with a galloping dance along with Subero’s trombone on the title track. Some hip keyboards team with warm brass for a street scene on “Cereal De Bobures” and Koch’s bass line sizzles with the traditional percussion on “Ehlba.” Some modal moments team with hand slapping and clapping on “A Modo Patanemeno” wnd Rodriguez saunters on “Mis Dos Luces” while getting peppy on “Minaguero” with Manolo Mairena and Subero adding vocals. This one’s a rich avalanche of Latin joy.
