Ready for the Great Ukrainian Songbook?!?
Bob Arthurs plays trumpet, flugelhorn and even sings as he joins with guitarist Steve LaMattina for a collection of Old World songs that will keep Georgia on your mind. The melodies of folk songs such as “Blakcthorn is in Blossom” and “Do Not Ask Why My Eyes Are Teary” are simply gorgeous, and Arthur’s Kenny Dorham-inspired warm horn does them glowing service. His earthy village voice works well on the dreamy “Moon in the Sky” and “Why Haven’t You Come” while LaMattina’s guitar keeps things hip and gently swinging during “Blues for Ukraine,” the lovely “Marigolds, That My Mother Planted” and the bluesy “My Dear Mother.” This is a sleeping beauty!
