Here’s a lady with a nice clean delivery, warm mezzo soprano tone and a feisty sense of time. Paulette Dozier gives us a dozen treatments of material that ranges from American Standards to Boomer Hits, and gives a fresh breath to them. The rhythm team of Mike Levine/p, Jamie Ousley/b and Sammy Levine/dr is as tight as the 80s Detroit Tiger infield, as they can get down on a tune like “Proud Mary” or float on a breeze as on “Autumn Leaves.” Dozier herself sounds relaxed and comfortable in her own skin on “Loving You” and even gives a good go of the Seals and Crofts piece “Summer Breeze.” Who knew that song had soul? Well, she mined it out! Good delivery!
