Claudio Scolari does almost all of it here. He playes drums, percussion, flute, piano and synthesizers. If he can cook Pasta Carbonara, he can stay at our house for as long as he wants! He shares the stage with Simone Scolari/tp and Daniele Cavalca/perc, p- synths-b-vibes for an intriguing and moody collection of originals. The haunting horn is well served on the title track and “Dialogue,” while the subtle and underlying meters and sounds weave in and out like observations from a passing subway. The team can also bring up the heat as on the assertive and driving “Expression of an Image” which has Simone creating some real heat with his horn. Some bluesy moments are brought on by Cavalca’s piano on the bopping “Dialogue,” showing the artists have a foot in the tradition as well as an eye to the future. Clever.
