Mindi Abair and the Boneshakers: The Eastwest Sessions

Saxist and vocalist Mindi Abair gets down and gritty on this successfully swampy outing with Randy Jacobs/g-voc, Rodney Lee/key, Derek Frank/b/voc and Third Richardson/dr/voc.  Sweet Pea Atkinson guests on a grooving R&B bluesy “Let Me Hear It From You,” and Joe Bonamassa loans his searing six stringer to the B3 wailing “ Pretty Good For A Girl.” Mindi herself is morphing into a blistery Bonnie Raitt, sounding fun and folksy on the back porch cozy “I Love to Play the Saxophone” and rocking out on the tighter than Kim Kardashian’s pants on “Vinyl.” Some 70s styled rocking guitar teams with Abair’s smoking reeds on”Play to Win” and “Had to Learn the Hard Way” and the team sounds like a chain gang on “She Don’t Cry No More” and churchy on “Done Me Wrong.” This team puts the fun back into funky.
