Adrian Cunningham: Jazz Speak

Adrian  Cunningham is a triple threat on tenor sax, flute and clarinet on this richly swinging album with an all star rhythm team of Ted Rosenthal/p, John Clayton/b and Jeff Hamilton/dr. On tenor sax, his warm vibrato growls with delight on “The Source” and gets hip on “Getting Down Uptown.” His clarinet is rich and woody with Hamilton’s brushes on “Let’s Fall in Love” and “Mood Indigo” and is dainty on “Petite Fleur.” For his flute outings, he bops with the best on “Tempus Fugit,” delivers a nice blues shuffle on “Rachel’s Dance” and sounds classy and classical during “Autumn Moon Over the Calm Lake.” Sublime and snazzy.
