Steve Hackett: The Night Siren

Guitarist and composer Steve Hackett continues to prove that there is life beyond the Exodus from Genesis. Not only does he use a a surfeit of guitars on this collection of fusion related originals, but he sings with rich effect throughout (along with Amanda Lehmann) o. n muscular pieces such as “Behind The Smoke. ”  Woodwinds from Rob Townsend and violins via Christine Townsend create rich textures and passionate lines on the exciting “El Nino,” “Inca Terra” and “In the Skeleton Gallery” while the intricate rhythms create a volcanic bedding for Hackett’s acoustic, electric an sitars, even bring in his harmonica to touch back on his earlier career days. The jazz-rock tunes look back, the more “worldly” tune look forward, and the Blue Ray dvd that accompanies the cd makes the music look fantastic. Another strong album in an already strong catalogue.
