This is the second volume that Brad Davis has produced that is dedicated to mixing country picking and grinning to “The Biggest Hits of the 1980s.” Take away the big hair, shoulder pads and fluorescent shirts, and the music holds up wonderfully. You get some strutting strings Robert Palmer’s “Simply Irresistible” and a sincere serenade on “I Want to Know What Love Is.” Wonderful bluegrass harmonies sound homey and folksy on ‘Walk Like and Egyptian” and a normal colored hair version of Cindy Lauper’s “Time After Time” is cozy on the porch” while the juke joint jumps on a C&W-ish “Dancing with Myself.” This is a fun one, and if you’re not singing along with a twang to these after a couple, you’re not getting it.
