Hints of various late period moods and sounds of Miles Davis are re-kindled on this album by trumpeter Anders Bergcrantz. The Swede sounds like he’s been weaned on albums like On the Corner and Live/Evil as his pungent horn bristles through moody keyboards on “Spirit of Life” and the aggressively driven “Resistance.” When muted, his horn is light and boppy as on “Childlike” and he gives dashes of the acoustic to plugged in sounds of the 60s on the Filles de Kilimanjaro styled “Mr. B.F.” while soulful harmonies s take you to Central Asia on “Oliphant” and cool voices create a soft mood on “It Freezes Now.” Miles Smiles!
