Mads Tolling & The Mads Men: Playing the 60s

Mads Tolling brings his violin, viola and baritone violins to take on some of the hippest themes from the 1960s, be they movies, tv or popular tunes of the era. He joins together the shark skin sharp team of Colin Hagan/key, Sam Bevan/b, Eric Garland/dr and various guests for some wonderful pizzicatos and bows. The team gets funky with vocalist Kalil Wilson on “My Girl” and seductively sashays with Spencer Day’s rich voice on a samba’d “The Look of Love.” Bevan’s bass line gets bopping for Tolling on the “Mission Impossible” theme and they gel like hipsters on a riveting “Peter Gunn” rendition. Tolling flows over the reggae groove of “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly” and Tolling fiddles as the  team soulfully struts through “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy/Mercy Mercy/Mercy, Mercy Me.” Some bohemia is evoked as Tolling goes through the Left Bank with Hogan’s accordion and Kenny Washington’s vocals on “What A Wonderful World.” The 60s take a bow here!
