Drummer Marcello Pellitteri teams up with a core unit of Orazio Maugeri/as, Salvatore Bonafede/p-key and Gabrio Bevilacqua/b and various guests on this clever album of songs and snippets. The team shows an affinity for bop and beyond with Bonafede’s piano bouncing over the leader’s snapping beat on ”Longing” while George Garzone loans his tenor for a double saxer on the energetic “Chasin’ The Zone.” The team conveys blue hues well as tenor saxist Rino Cirinna joins in on ”Saxando” and the post bop vocals of Lauren Kinhan are introduced by some rich bass work by Bevilacaqua. Moods change on a whim, with a poem recited by Veronica Pellitteri floats over a gentle rubato while Marcello Todaro’s guitar and spoken words close the album on a note reflective of a stained glass window. Creative and still swinging.
