Laurence Jones: Take Me High

On the cover of this cd, Laurence Jones poses with a classic vintage Fender Tele, slicks his hair back and poses like he just stepped out of a Sun Records recording session. The sounds are not far from the image, as he teams up with Roger Inniss/b, Phil Wilson/dr, Bob Fridzema/key, Paul Jones/harp and some guests for a vintage blue plate blues rocker.

His guitar chimes with the B3 on “Live It Up,” and his voice is red clay earthy on the riffing “Got No Place To Go.” He knows how to boogie, as his strings wail on “Take Me High” and does a slow butter churn on “Down & Blue.” Jones’ harp sears along with Inniss’ hip bass line on”The Price I Pay” and Reuben Rogers adds his voice to an irresistibly goosed up read of Stevie Wonder’s “Higher Ground.” A juke joint jumper!
