Ray Obiedo: Latin Jazz Project Vol. 1

Guitarist Ray Obiedo delivers a wide ranging palate of Latin sounds and moods on this album of originals and covers. He mixes and matches a team of Paul van Wageningen/dr, Marc Van Wageningen-David Belove/b, Michael Spiro/perc, David Mathews/p and Karl Perazzo/perc along with a guest list of horns and woodwinds.

The mix of flute and timbales makes for some sensuous sauntering on”Southern Side” and “Coral Keys” while the team gets swampy on”Cubo Azul”. A dash of Brazilian samba is sweet on “Child’s Dance” and Ray Vega’s trumpet solo adds spice to the salsa on “Santa Cruz.” The horns are rich on “Sabor” and the percussion turns into Cruise Night with Sheila E and Peter Michael Escovedo percolating on “Cool For Now.” A real joy for the ears and heart.
