Toronto-based baritone saxist Shirantha Beddage delivers a thick and rich tone in combination with David Restivo/p-key, Mike Downes-Rich Brown/b and Mark Kelso-Will Kennedy/dr. The band is able to deliver a New Orleans-ish funky groove on the bluesy “Pork Chop” while Restivo’s keyboards get Sneaky Pete on the funky “Drag and Drop.” Beddage’s tone is rich and room filling, reflective with rich piano and gentle cymbal work on “Momentum” and palpable on the spiraling “Angle of Incidence.” The themes range from gentle reflections to deep rivulets, and Beddage’s bari is able to veer through like a sharp spade. Rewarding.
