Daniel Foose: Of Water And Ghosts

Bassist and composer Daniel Foose creates a pastoral album with a string section to augment a sensitive team of Sebastian Noelle/g and  Keita Ogawa/perc. The album consists of two “Suites” of sorts. The “Sonora Suite” is a four part collection of themes that mix a bit of funky bass and percussion on “The Judge” with thoughtful streams of strings, while “Rites at the Grave” is rich and dramatic with sweeping blows.

The second part is a bit more jazzy and edgy, an electric guitar comes into play on the earthy “Blues For Jay Bird” and the team bops together for “Monk’s Mississippi Milk.” Some string tapping and bumps take place on “Pike Tricks…” while the album ends with an elegiac “Wedding Place (For Sueyoung).” Misty mornings
