If you don’t have a version of Gershwin’s classic An American In Paris, this one conducted by Steven Richman with the Harmonie Ensemble is a great place to start. Fun, rich and sparkling, it captures the joy of life that the composer intended. As a bonus, legendary pianist Lincoln Mayorga delivers the ivories in rich form for the “Concerto In F” while a couple obscurities such as Roy Bargy’s arrangement of “Three Preludes” and an overture to “Of Thee I Sing” makes it’ first studio recording. All of the music sounds fresh and vibrant, capturing the Roaring 20s perfectly.
