Matty Harris brings together a wide ranging team of twins of drummers (Michael Lockwood-Tim Carr), bassists (Jake Rosenzweig-Mathan Phelps) as well as guitarist Maxwell Gualtieri and keybardist Garett Grow as the base for horn players Vinny Golia, Paul Novros, Ryan Parrish, Joe Santa Maria, Greg Zilboorg, Brandon Sherman, Louis Lopez and himself on a panoply of reeds. The four songs have a loose left of center feel, sighing on the wide ranging “Party Time” and creating a panoramic atmosphere on the pastoral and spacious “Oh, A Little Day Trip Around the Crunch.” Harris’ bass clarinet gets some space on “10,000 Kimmys Gibbler” and some nice trumpet work is delivered on the bluesy “Cockapoo Army.” The reeds sway like a nimble elephant, sometimes drifting around Grow’s keyboard concepts. The sounds drift a bit, but never lose their balance, and the edgy harmonies are challenging but not cacophonic. Cerebrations.
