Lefteris Kordis: Mediterrana (Goddess of Light)

Lefteris Kordis mixes sounds from various contents with his Greek background on this collection of original compositions. He plays piano and Korg keyboard, teaming up with Petros Klampanis/b and  Ziv Ravitz/dr as the core foundation, but adding various exotic instruments for special shadows. The Greek stringed instrument Laouto played by Vasilis Kostas teams up with Roni Eytan/s harmonica for some mystical travels on ”Journey with Pilgrims” and the title track. The trio plays it fairly straight for a hip read of The Beatles’ “And I Love H er” while “Nas” includes Alec Spiegelman’s brooding and meditative bass clarinet. The otherworldly wooden flute by Harris Lambrakis adds Aegean breezes to “In the Land of Phrygians”, while Bulgarian echoes are hard on “Deep Green.” As reflective as a night at Mount Athos.
