Akin Adderley/voc, Erik Telford/tp-ah, Nick Litterski/key, Aaron Allen/b and Andy Beaudoin/dr make up the band Nori, mixing easy grooves with rich lyricism. Telford’s horn is cool and muted, or open and sweet, gliding over the trudging “Arirang” or fragrantly blowing along with Adderley’s romantic and calm voice on “A New Sun.” The rhythm team gets into some nice funky and stomping moods on the soulful “Just A Man” while some Afro-Bluish colors pop up on the Caribbean “Lullaby.” Endearing suol and gospel is on display with Litterski’s keyboards on the ballad “Waiting to Fall” and it’s simply irresistible to not have your attention grabbed by Adderley’s haunting a capella intro to Plain Gold Ring.” Subtly swinging
