Not old enough yet to vote, guitarist/vocalist Spencer Mackenzie is the latest find for rock ribbed blue eyed soul pickers. He’s got a nice sound and sounds comfortable with his team of Brant Parker/g, David McMorrow/key, Alan Duffy/b, Sean O’Grady/dr and a snapping horn section. The team gets the Memphis groove on “Mess Around” and shuffles well on “Infected With The Blues.” He knows how to make the strings moan on a BB King-inspired “Goodbye Lucille” while he stomps with the B3 on a hip read of “All Along the Watchtower.” The horns boogie to Jumpin’ From Six to Sox” and he shows a gospel feel on “Sinner’s Prayer.” Nice opening foray!
