Tenor and soprano saxist Dave Anderson leads a rich quartet with Tom Guarna/g, Pat Bianchi/org and Matt Wilson/dr. Bianchi’s B3 is in the mood and spirit of Larry Young, able to swing but with some sophisticated lines and grooves. Guitar and soprano sax meld like suede and leather on “Urban Dilemma” and “22 Doors.” Anderson’s tenor is velvety and hip on his tribute to Joe Henderson on “The Phantom” and Bianchi gets some nice solo space on the title track dedicated to hero Joey DeFrancesco. Guarna has a cool toned touch to his strings, well displayed on “12 Step Blues” and Wilson is adept at each mood, showing style and excellent pulse on “Two-Tone Tune.” These guys groove well together.
