John McAndrew: Forgiven

There are enough accolades from the likes of Eric Clapton on this album by singer/songwriter John McAndrew to make you at least give it a spin. It’s well worth it!

He’s got a voice that sounds like he’s been around the block, and can swing it, rock it or put it on the gospel train with his fingers on the keyboards. His songs have lyrics that make you think; usually with a lyric, I’ll tune it out for the melody and think “I know where he’s going,” but McAndrew makes you hang in there for the punch line of each song.

And the songs hit home. Material about giving up on God “I Love You All” as well as real friendship “God Works That Way” as well as being honest about doubts about faith “Give Me New Eyes” and “Tell Me Why” sound like modern day psalms. Even if you’re not a Sunday morning kind of guy, McAndrew brings up issues that every man needs to face, like you’re taking a listen from a good friend. Definitely want to sit by this guy for an evening and chew the fat.
