Here’s a fun and funky band consisting of Marcello Giannini/g, Vincenzo Lamagna/b, Salvatore rainone/dr, Ciro Riccardi/tp, Pietro Santangelo/ts-as, Roccardo Villari/vio and Derek Di Perri/harm. The band is quite eclectic, and though all are Italian, have a fantastic grasp of American R&B. The horns and snapping backbeat feel like Tower of Power on “Mani In Faccia” and a dash of Average White Band picks up the pieces on the boogying “Currywurst.” Santangelo’s alto gives a bel canto aria along with Giannini’s electric guitar on the spacious “Hangover” and the reeds provide a velvety sunset on the pastoral “Oblio” with clean acoustic and electric guitars. A bit of country rock gets into the scene with Riccardi’s trumpet on the hip lick during “Passannante” and the team picks and grins like Duanne Eddy on “Persian Nights.” Bella!
