Here’s an intriguing lady who fits into what I call the “quircky and clever chicks” category. Becca Stevens has a warm voice that gives hints of early Joni Mitchell, plays a variety of guitars and other stringed apparel, writes most of the songs here and teams with Liam Robinson/key, Chris Tordini/b-org, Jordan Perlson/dr-perc, Keith Ganz/g, Colin Killalea/g and Tom Koridiis/bari for a cozy and intimate collection.
She’s able to give off a charming and almost wide eyed view of life as she mixes poems on “105” to a cover of Stevie Winwood’s “Higher Love” with even Usher’s “You Make Me Wanna” getting a new fragrance. Her own flight of fancy pieces sch as “ Thinkin’ About You” and “Imperfect Animals” reveal a deep and thoughtful thinker, as her gentle and folksy accompaniment takes you to the Laurel Canyon days of the 60s. Disarming in its allure.
