Seattle-based Spontaneous Rex is comprised of Jake Seale/p-key, Matt Williams/g, Nick Lonien/b and Joe Eck/dr. Here, on their debut disc, they deliver four originals that sounds like a mix of early era Pink Floyd with a dash of Deep Purple. Lots of moody keyboards float around on the title track and “Ania” while hard hitting guitars slash through on “Eldolon,” and Eck’s drums bring back echoes of Billy Cobham with some hard hitting throughout. The four songs all range between 6-10 minutes and take you on various directions, from misty mountain hops to crashing waves on the cliffs. These guys sound like they are part of the return of 70s fusion.
