The key factor in any organ trio is 1) song selection and 2) how deeply you want to set the groove. Hammond B3-er Pat Bianchi joins with Craig Ebner/g and Byron Landham/dr for a collection of some clever picks of material here, ranging from originals, logical selections and wise obscurities. Comfortable tunes such as “Without A Song” and “Some Other Time” have Bianchi’s B3 cozily groove in a mode that has you think you’re out at Dodger Stadium, with fluffy chords and easy tempos. Then, heavy boppers such as the frantic “Bohemia After Dark” has the fingers run off to the races, while Landham hits the drums just right on the slinky “Blue Silver.” Ebner does some lovely classical guitar on the samba “So Many Stars” and digs in deep on “The Will of Landham,” while the team shows its soul shoes on Stevie Wonder’s “From The Bottom of My Heart.” Strong outing.
