This album with pianist Ran Blake and vocalist Christine Correa is the second volume of a tribute to Abbey Lincoln. Aside from two takes of “Throw It Away” which have Blake soloing, the material has the two delivering their stark interpretations of tunes written by or associated with Ms. Lincol. Correa’s strong voice penetrates on pieces such as “Straight Ahead” and ”In The Red” while she is as stark as a silhouette on “Midnight Sun.” Her reach can get very low as on “Love Lament” as well as able to wail during “The River.” Blake can get elliptical on”The Heel” and chimes in support of “When Autumn Sings” while Correa grabs you by the throat. A collection that gets in your face.
