Frank Carlberg & Leo Genovese: Shadows and Reflections

Keyboard Concepts are in abundance here, as Franks Carlberg and Leo Genovese do duets on piano, Rhodes, Farfisa and classical organ on a collection dominated by originals, and interestingly, Thelonious Monk. Of the former, the is a Satie-esque spaciousness with piano and keyboards on the title track, while the team wears pedal pushers of the soft “Harlequin.” Hints of a Harold Lloyd movie come to mind as the organ hoots on “Tivoli” and the Leguizamon composiotn “Zamba para l Viuda” a mix of classical piano and farfisa organ weave together. The Monk tune ‘”Hornin’ In” starts with a thud and veers into dark piano and organ gurgles, while prismatic keyboards and ivories ooze around n “Epistrophy.” Windy chimes tinker on ”Locomotive” and things get as eerie as a fractured flicker on “Misterioso.” Lots of shadows here.
