If you’re a fan of Brazilian music, this one’s gonna tickle your ears. Guitarist and vocalist Phill Fest mixes originals with classics here with Robert Prester-Dale Powers/p, Russ Howard/b, Ronie Martinez-Carlomagno Araya/dr, Jonathan Sigel/tp, Andy & Jack Potter/perc and guest Hendrik Muerkens/harm along with some guest vocalists. His touch on classical guitar is a joy, as displayed on the lithe peppy title track and the folksy “Frajola” wutg Terezinha Valois’ charming vocals. The band is peppy and upbeat with Muerkens’ harmonica on “Meu Pai” and “Estamos Ai,” while Sige’s horn is lovely on Jobim’s dainty “Triste.” Fest himself is a charmer, and displays rich and glorious sounds while either strumming or caressing the strings as on Villa Lobos’ “Choro No. 1.” He covers every South American base here, making this a real feast.
