Originals such as “A ‘WInkel In Time” and “Sloped Perspective” feature some complex yet energetic rhythms, with upbeat stickwork by Strickland serving as a restless foundation for Lefkowitz-Brown’s earthy tenor and Darche’s optimistic guitar wro. The aggitaged lines on the funky “Arts of a Bachelor” include a nifty bass line by White, whle Darche gets clever on the angular “Nerds.” The band does wonders with the lyrical standard “Nobody Else But Me” as Darche sounds happy and insouciant, while the team bears down with confidence on “You Stepped Out Of A Dream.” Impressive step in a good direction.
