If you have ears for a time when music was happy, rawy, energetic and organic, get a load of Quinn Deveaux. He’s got an earnest honey tenured voice, plays rhythm guitar, and leads a team of Kenan Obrien/b, Chris Seibert/key, Matthey MacGillivray/der and Ahsati Tyehimba-Ford with Latriece Love/vocals through a mix of sounds that range from doo wop to rocabilly, but end up in the church. A blueesy gospel piano sets the stage for the two beat “Lil 45”, and some riffing guitars do the stroll on “Tara Jean.” Lots of rocabilly and Dick Dale guitar licks are on “Leave This Town” and “Hey Right On” and old school R&B that pre-dates the Beatles make you feel like you’re listening to an old Race Record is on “Kids of on Fire.” Two step dances are in abundance as on “One” and you’re back in the pews with the gospel and organ on “Cruel.” All throughout, the energy is high, and even with the saddest stories, a winsome smile is felt from the singer. Gotta like these guys!
