Thick toned tenor Noah Preminger follows the path of sax giants like John Coltrane with a tasty album of (mostly) soft and subdued pieces. He’s teamed with Julian Shore/p, Kim Cass/b and Allan Mednard/dr, mixing his own originals sandwiched between a pair of covers. He takes on the rarely researched “Stan’s Mood” from the famed mellifluous Getz, and is in lovely form, as well as when he wafts with Mednard for “Someone To Watch Over Me”. His desolation is fluffy on “Democracy, sighing in resignation with Shore for “Carry Me Ohio” and probing on “Pneu”. The only assertive piece has Mednard hitting hard on the intro to the agonizing cry of “ In Our 20s”, creating a bit of a break in the mood. Emitting emotions.
