Playing tenor and soprano sax, Boyce Justice Griffith shows swagger and style on this post bopping release with Anthony Hervey/tp, Isaiah J. Thompson/p, Martin Jaffe/b and John Sturino/dr. The rhythm section shows it’s energy on a bop shuffler on “The Point (Development)”, with Thompson’s chords lighting sparks. Griffith’s tenor makes a bold and late entrance on the rich “Balrog”, and when teamed with Hervey hints of vintage Jazz Messengers take place on the crisp “The State Of Being” and “The Point (Closure)”. His soprano is sweet and delicate with Thompson for “Isolation” and Coltrane-esque on the rich rubato of “The Two Fish”. We get the point.
