This album has more ‘bones than a chiropractic clinic, as Andre Hayward leads the brassy sliders of Christopher Leach, Pete Madsen, Brett Stamps and bass horn Steve Wilson through a collection of polished charts. Backed by Jeff Jenkins/p, Bobby Scharmann/b and Doug Montera/dr. Hayward and company deliver material that ranges from and R&B-ish “Stuff Like This” to a gorgeously mellifluous “Waiting For Adeline”. Hayward takes most of the solos, and he’s a force to be reckoned with, showing swagger around Scharmann on “Sliders” and gliding easily around Jenkins on the pretty swing of “Forget About It”. The five trombones are sweet over Montera’s brushes for “Down Home” and belt out over his rumbling sticks on “The Winning Edge”. Sliding like vintage Ricky Henderson.
