Karl Latham: Living Standards II

Drummer Karl Latham repeats his successful re-imagining of rock tunes on this album with Mitch Stein/g, Wolfgang Lackerschmid/vib, Henry Hey/key, Mark Egan/b and Roger Squitero/perc. Egan is the anchor leg here, giving a hip pulse to “Break On Through” and going extra on the blues with Stein on a hoot of Led Zeppelin’s “What Is And What Should Never Be”. Latham and Hey go overtime on a thrilling read of “Layla” while “Rock and Roll Woman” has a clever upbeat feel. The two part take of “Carry On” mixes hip vibes and Egan guiding your ears through a fretless bass journey, with “Magic Carpet Ride” a fusion treat. Must be listened to while wearing wide wale cords!
