Eldad Tarmu: Silver On Aluminum

Here’s a brilliant idea from vibraphonist Eldad Tarmu, as this album takes on the classic hard bop catalogue of Horace Silver and puts them in a trio concept with Marty Isenberg/b and Michael Shapira/dr. The fact that there is no piano, tenor sax or trumpet in the equation makes it so you take on the tunes on their own merits, as there’s no similar rendition out there, and Tarmu paints the portraits with a new brush. The vibes snap on “Oraescope” and get intense with “The St.  Vitus Dance”. Shapira’s brushes assuage Tarmu’s ricochet’s on “No Smokin’” and the team gets churchy on “Strollin’” with Isenberg digging in deep for “Opus De Funk”. A fresh  scope for Horace
