Bassist Vincenzo Virgillito goes solo with a wide variety of basses on this clever collection of mostly originals. The atmosphere is remarkably lyrical and wide ranging in dynamics. His acoustic bass is rich on a read of Charles Mingus’ “Goodbye Pork Pie Hat” and a richly lyrical “Danny Boy”. His bowed bass is textured on ”Stars In The Mirror (My Sons) and his electric bass strings dance to “Word Drops (Jaco’s Midnight)”. There are a series of “Resets” that range from ambience to synthetic soundscapes, with a dash of mischief thrown in for good. A clef’d mosaic.
