Elam Briedlander: Sound-Elements

Bassist Elam Briedlander brings together a post bop team of Abraham Burton/ts, Luis Perdomo/p and Eric McPherson/dr for a handful of his compositions. The mood has a feel of late period John Coltrane, with almost every song giving each artist a chance at an intro. Burton howls and wails on a shrill opening to the dark modal “Fire” with McPherson’s cymbals and mallets open the doors to Perdomo’s dark aura of “Water”. Friedlander picks and bows a handoff to an extroverted Burton on “Earth” with Perdomo bringing a rubato feel to the somber “Epilogue”, with “Air” having an “Impressions” feel. Strong impulses.
