Ricky Alexander takes you back to the early days of swing, playing clarinet, soprano sax and singing a bit with vocalist Vanisha Gould and a two stepping band of Jon-Erik Kellso/tp, Brennen Ernst/g, Dalton Ridenhour/-Jon Thomas/p, Rob Adkins/b and Kevin Dorn/dr. Alexander slithers on the reeds around Kellso’s plunging horn on “People Will Say We’re In Love” and the band has a hoot on the fun reads of “King Porter Stomp” and “ H igh Society”. Gould is sassy on “It Had to Bee You” and coy for “Sweet Lorraine” with Alexander in wondrous tone for the stomper “Rubber Plant Rag”. Hotcha heaven.
