Christopher Zuar Orchestra: Exuberance

Modern big band sounds are featured bycomposer and arranger Christopher Zuar, who puts together a 20 plus orchestra conducted by Mike Holober. The charts are quite creative, with some violin work by Sara Caswell teaming up with Glenn Zaleski’s piano on the reflective “Communion” and some folk ideas with Joe Brent’s mandolin  and Maz ZT’s hammered dulcimer on “Simple Machines”. Emma Frak brings in her pastoral voice to recite the lyrics to “Exuberance” . The sections have some bold harmonies, working around Mark Ferber’s drums on “Before Dawn” and surrounding Matt Holman’s flugelhorn on the panoramic “Moment’s In Between”. Charts of art.
