Pianist Lucian Ban joins with violaist Mat Maneri on a mix of original and traditional pieces, creating dreamy folk textures. There is a delicate pastoral sense to themes such as “Poor Is My Heart” and the rural “Romanian Folk Dance” that feels unrushed and plaintive. Manei picks out a bass line and bows through a crystalline “Love Mine of Long Ago” with some blue hues formed n “Make Me, Lord, Slim and Tall”. The two get a bit frisky as Ban kicks his heals and the two scramble around on the festive “Transylvania Dance” whereas “The Enchanted Song” hovers with eerie shadows. No moon at all.
