One of the most impressive pianists in the Bill Evans inspired realm is Lynne Arriale, putting together another strong trio album with Alon Near/b and Lukasz Zyta/dr on this collection of originals celebrating the characteristics of humanity, but without being. She’s kinetic and clever on “Curiosity” and modal on the Tynerish “ Persistence”. There’s an Ellingtonian richness to the relaxed and mellow “Soul” with a pretty cadence to “Heart” and the folksy “Faith”. Her lyricism is memorable on “Courage” with a fun calypso to “Joy” before closing the album out with a gospelly choir on “Love-Reprise”. Always reliable, but always full of surprises.
