John Pizzarelli sticks to his strengths of show tunes, swing and cozy humor on this album of Tin Pan Alley classics teamed wit Isaiah J. Thompson/p and Michael Karn/b. Showing he still has chops to spare, he waltzes and stretches out with the gents on a wild and wacky instrumental “Oklahoma Suite” while getting Hotcha as he sings hep to the jive for “Coffee In A Caradboard Cup”. Pizzarelli is a master of the introduction, giving a cozy lead in for “Tea For Two” and “Just In Time” while forming a delicate guitar frame on “Some Other Time”. The humor is wry on “ I L ove Betsy” and the swinging is easy for “Too Close For Comfort”. No surprises, but lots of pleasures.
