DUETS…Sylvie Courvoisier & Cory Smyth: The Rite Of Spring-Spectre d’un Songe

Pianists Sylvie Courvoisier and Cory Smythe converse for 176 keys worth on an interpretation of Stravinsky’s “Rite Of Spring” as well as a 29 minute opus original, “Spectre d’un Songe”. Part 1, entitle “The Adoration of the Earth” has many intuitive moments, percussive but not chaotic, with lovely fluid moments of dialogue. “The Sacrifice” of Part 2 uses great dynamics and a judicious mix of space for its 18  minutes. The fingers scramble, swirl and stride for the almost 30 minute original with a combination of free solos and twenty digit challenges in unison. Ripples of rhythm
