Philly local drummer Vince Ector works the room with a humming team of Justin Jones/as, Paul Bollenback/g and Pat Bianchi/org at a simmering gig at Connecticolleut’s Side Door Jazz Club back in 2020. Ector creates a wide variety of moods, grooves and drives in the red meat Hammond milieu, shuffling off to Buffalo with some tasty guitar work on “South Philly Groove” and creating an avalanche of emotion on the aggressive “Con Alma”. Jones’ alto sax is warm and embracing, preaching it on th e6/8 rollick of “Wives and as warm as a morning cappuccino on “Love Won’t Let Me Wait” with Bollenback tapping into his inner Grant Green on #2 pencill lines for a dreamy “Courtship”. As tasty and filling as something from Pat’s Steak House.
